The Brief
The Historic Dockyard Chatham is one of Kent's top tourist attractions. Set in an 80 acre estate, it offers stunning historic architecture, historic ships and museum galleries.
Netsite has worked closely with The Dockyard for some while, having already designed the previous site for them several years ago. When they asked us to work with them again, we jumped at the chance to re-design and develop a brand new up-to-date website, integrating The Dockyard's new logo and branding.
Our Solution
The Dockyard wanted to place more prominence on information for visitors to the tourist attraction and a colour-coded left hand navigation menu was created called 'Plan Your Day' with easily accessible links to individual attractions, as well as information such as opening times, location map and prices.
Each attraction is now branded with its own colour and logo, so different templates had to be designed to reflect this. The old site included over 250 pages of database-driven content, including many pages of historical information. The advantage of having a database is that we could easily migrate it to the new site without the need to re-build every single page again from scratch. All the copy can still be edited and updated by the client using our Zestos Content Management System|.
