New intranet means better and greener communication for Rydon
One of the South East's largest construction companies has re-launched its intranet to improve staff communication and help reduce C02.
East Sussex-based Rydon, which employs around 600 staff working across construction, development, maintenance, investment and property management, brought in website and intranet design experts Netsite to create a new site that would hold as much useful information as possible while being interactive and automatic. It was also part of Rydon's environmental strategy to reduce paper use.
Graphic Design Manager Lisa Annable explained: "We had an intranet that we had designed ourselves but it was quite basic. We needed to bring in expert help to create on-line directories that could be searched, staff areas where people could post photographs and notice boards. Alongside this, we needed to store all our forms, templates and letterheads and have links to our quality management system."
Lisa went on to explain that the new intranet has helped reduce the need to e-mail documents and photos and save files onto Rydon's network as they can all now be saved in one area of the intranet. The on-line directories mean that printed versions are no longer needed and that staff have instant access to correct contact details.
The Netsite team, who are based in Chatham, Kent, also incorporated a news area and a 'what's new' section which shows new additions or changes to the site.
Netsite Managing Director Paul Duthoit said: "We were delighted to work with Rydon on this project and deliver a solution that is helping them to be greener. Equally important is the fact that staff now have instant access to the information they need to work as effectively and efficiently as possible."
From its beginnings in 1978, Rydon has grown into a multi-faceted company, employing around 600 people. Rydon Construction, Rydon Homes and Rydon Maintenance cover general contracting, refurbishment, remediation, cross subsidy, regeneration, property maintenance and residential and commercial property development, while Ryhurst focuses on developing bespoke product/service solutions for the health and social care markets.
Netsite offers a range of services from bespoke website design through to content managed e-recruitment systems. The company was established 12 years ago and has clients including the NHS, The Charity Commission, Crewsaver and The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
