Kent Fire and Rescue Service Website

The Brief

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for delivering fire and rescue services to more than 1.6 million people in Kent and Medway, from 66 fire stations and 4 fire safety offices.

Our brief was to redesign the site with accessibility and usability in mind. The site was to be easy to navigate and allow people to get to important fire safety information as quick as possible.

Our Solution

We designed and developed a website that allowed the changing of background colours, fonts and font size allowing the user to decide the best way they wanted to view the site. When it was launched, the site also offered Fire Safety Leaflets in 14 different languages.

The site offers the opportunity to sign up to the mailing list and have all the press releases emailed to the user as they added to the site. It has an interactive children's game which aims to teach them about fire safety. This site won the National Communicators in Business Award in 2007 for Best Usability for Web.
